Our solar electrical system
We have added a 12-volt DC electrical system to our cold frame. It is powered by an 80-Watt Sharp photovoltaic panel. We are using it to run a water pump for irrigation, and a series of 5-Watt light bulbs to keep the chambers warm at night. A 2010 grant from PG&E's Solar Schools Program paid for this part of the project.

We also built a companion system on a wooden cart for classroom use here in San Anselmo. We sure were on a steep learning curve! None of us knew that much about wiring before this project. We intalled the photovoltaic panel in the White Mountains in June of 2010, and added more electrical components in July of 2011.
