Macbeth was performed in the fall of 1996 by the '96/'97 seventh period intermediate drama class. David g. Smith directed the production, and created the original concept. The play was put into a slightly more modern concept, making the kings more like presidents, and nobles like politicians. The stage was set with scaffolding, and a cherry picker. On the front of the cherry picker a tree was hung lacking both color and life, but was holding the dismembered and bloodied bodies of babydolls. The cast changed costumes throughout the show changing from all white to all black as the plot grew darker. The one character that did not do this was Lady Macbeth, who changed from black to white. The audience was placed on stage so as to place them in the middle of the insanity that Macbeth and his lady would create. Quotes were painted on the otherwise black floor, in red or white. | ||

So What is this all about?
Acting is about risk, and school is about education and here we
are learning stuff and taking a huge risk. We are certainly not
the first high school to ever attempt Shakespeare, and won't be
the last.
My mission in bringing Macbeth to our theatre was to try to make
it accessable for students and painless for adults. As a person
who takes walks and ends up going twenty miles because it didn't
look so far on the map, let me just say, it didn't look so challenging
on paper.
But let me say as a walker that I try to teach people about the
journey, and we have had a good one. Always for me it is not just
about kids unlocking Shakespeare but unlocking themselves as well.
We are unlocking the mysteries of language, and life each time
we take a shot at this. On top of all of that we kind of wanted
to scare people.
Thanks to all the students and parents for their support of this
crazed endeavor. You are all phenomenal.
